Ballot Return Sites - 2024 Primary Election

(PITTSBURGH) - The Allegheny County Elections Division is reminding voters of some important upcoming deadlines and how to vote in the upcoming April 23 primary election.

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is Tuesday, April 16. Voters may apply in person at the County Office Building downtown or online at Mail-in and Absentee Ballot (pa.gov). “Over the counter” voting is available downtown in the lobby of the County Office Building Monday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 16 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Voters who need to vote prior to April 23 but do not apply for a mail-in ballot by the Tuesday, April 16 deadline must request an Emergency Ballot at the County Office Building.

As of Thursday, April 11, 118,471 mail-in ballot applications have been processed, including 96,837 from Democratic voters and 21,634 from Republican voters. Democratic voters have returned 29,408 ballots; Republican voters have returned 6,546 ballots.

Voters planning to vote in person on Tuesday, April 23 are encouraged to check their polling place. The Elections Division moved 62 polling places since last November’s election, so every voter should confirm their polling place at VotesPA.gov: Polling Place Information (pa.gov).

Ballot Return Sites will be open in seven locations for the next two weekends. Ballot Return Site hours are Saturday, April 13, and Saturday April 20, 9 am – 5 pm; and Sunday, April 14, and Sunday, April 21, 11 am – 7 pm.

Each voter may only return their own ballot unless they have completed authorization forms to turn in a ballot on behalf of someone who physically is unable to vote. If a voter requires assistance in voting or returning a ballot, they should call 412-350-4500 for further information. Ballot return sites will only accept completed ballots. There are no provisions for “over the counter” voting at these sites.
