First event takes place downtown on June 4 with family-friendly activities

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County’s Department of Sustainability will kick off the final phase of public engagement for the county’s first-ever Climate Action Plan (CAP) with a community open house on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The CAP will help guide Allegheny County’s long-term strategies to reduce flooding and landslides, address rising energy prices, improve public health, support economic vitality and workforce development, strengthen infrastructure, and build a more resilient and sustainable future for all residents.

Community feedback gathered throughout the summer will directly inform future programs, policies, partnerships, and funding priorities.

The June 4 event will launch a countywide engagement series that includes more than 15 pop-up events, community conversations, and virtual opportunities throughout the summer.

The county is partnering with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History on the engagement process, incorporating applied climate communication research conducted as part of the Climate and Urban Systems Partnerships (CUSP) and Climate and Rural Systems Partnerships (CRSP) to help ensure meaningful and accessible community participation.

County officials noted that sustainability initiatives can also reduce costs and improve government operations.
