Who Are the Park Rangers?

The Allegheny County Park Rangers are the ambassadors of our parks and the catalyst for stewardship among park visitors. Park Rangers offer educational and interpretive programming as well as outreach programming to local schools and communities. They also provide park visitors with orientation and information while ensuring park regulations are being followed. The Allegheny County Park Rangers represent the ideas of conservation and stewardship of our natural, cultural and recreational resources.

Seasonal Park Rangers

Position Summary

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for providing information, education and quality customer services to visitors of Allegheny County Parks, promoting recreation and safe utilization of the parks in accordance with applicable provisions of the Allegheny County Code of Ordinances, and working various natural and recreational resource management projects, including but not limited to, trail building, invasive species removal and tree planting.

Although Park Rangers are headquartered in North and South Parks, they will perform duties throughout the nine Allegheny County Parks. Position may be terminated at any time due to weather conditions or project availability.

Trail Crew Leaders

Position Summary

The Trail Crew Leader functions as the leader for a six-member trail crew that operates in the nine Allegheny County Parks and works under the Park Ranger division. The Trail Crew Leader will report directly to the Lead Supervisory Park Ranger and will be overseen in the field by the Lead and Senior Park Rangers.

The Trail Crew Leader will be able to navigate demanding physical work in often adverse conditions with a positive attitude. This position requires a combination of outdoor leadership and trail maintenance experience as well as a proven ability to work with volunteers and organizational partners. The incumbent will be expected to navigate an often-changing schedule and dynamic work environment and work with and lead volunteers on various projects.

This position requires a team-first attitude, a willingness to learn and lead, flexibility with various work projects, locations and conditions. Position may be terminated at any time due to weather conditions or project availability.

Trail Crew Members

Position Summary

Trail Crew Members function on a six-member trail crew that operates in the nine Allegheny County Parks and works under the Park Ranger division. These individuals will report directly to the Trail Crew Leader. Trail Crew Members will be able to navigate demanding physical work in often adverse conditions with a positive attitude. This position requires a combination of trail maintenance experience as well as the ability to work with volunteers and organizational partners. This position will be expected to navigate an often-changing schedule and dynamic work environment, and to use a variety hand tools to build and maintain trails. The incumbent will be expected to work alongside staff and volunteers on various projects.

This position requires a team-first attitude, a willingness to learn, flexibility with various work projects, locations, and conditions. Position may be terminated at any time due to weather conditions or project availability.
