Registration for Class 1 Food Facilities

A Class 1 Food Facility only handles commercially prepackaged, shelf-stable (non-time and temperature controlled for safety) food. Examples of class 1 food facilities are a clothing retailer selling candy, a theater selling only packaged snacks, or a beer store only selling canned/bottled beer and packaged food items.

Class 1 Registration Requirements

Class 1 Food Facilities are required to register with the Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program. Requirements by Food Facility Classification(PDF, 181KB) provides a method to confirm your food facility class, a simplified chart of basic construction and equipment requirements, and references additional requirement information based on your business model.

How to Register

To register a Class 1 Food Facility, complete the Registration Application(PDF, 260KB). The application submitted must include

  1. A signed and completed Class 1 Registration Application
  2. Proof of applying for, or having received, a sales and use tax license from the PA Department of Revenue

Making Changes to Plumbing

Plumbing work in a food facility must be completed by a Registered Master Plumber, who will submit for required permits with the ACHD Plumbing Program.
