School Transportation Tips

Getting kids off to school in the morning can be hard, but safety should always be a priority. Whether your kids ride the bus, walk, or get dropped off, these tips will help everyone arrive safely.

  • Always stop for school buses with red flashing lights! This is a Pennsylvania State law!
  • Always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and be cautious at intersections.
  • Always follow the designated speed limits in school zones. Failure to do so can be dangerous and result in heavy fines.
  • Never text and drive!
  • Always be sure to properly restrain children riding in your car. The number of children in your car should never exceed the number of rear seat belts and/or car seats.
  • Never wear headphones when you drive. Having something in your ear can limit your ability to hear other motorists and emergency vehicles.
  • Always be alert for bicycles and motorcycles.
  • Never drive while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or while overly tired.

School Bus Safety Presentations

We encourage students, families, and drivers to learn about school bus safety. We offer school bus safety presentations for students in grades Pre-K through 8th. Our presentation also includes information about pedestrian, bicycle, and child passenger safety.

To schedule a presentation for your community group or school, please contact Traffic Safety Education Program Coordinator Nicole Barnett at 412-247-7962.
