Service Coordination New Hire Trainings
The Service Coordinator New Hire Training is a required five-session training for individuals entering the workforce for the first time as a service coordinator. Led by staff from the DHS Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and DHS-contracted agencies, the training provides an introduction to behavioral health systems, service coordination, crisis response, recovery, and service planning.
Curriculum
During the five-day training, participants will learn about:
- Mental health systems and behavioral health services
- Mental Health Procedures Act and the 302 process Children, Youth and Families (CYF) services
- Medication management and mental health advance directives
- OMHSAS and local behavioral health resources
- Wellness and recovery approaches
- CANS/ANSA assessments and breakout sessions
- Suicide prevention and crisis planning
- Mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses
- Drug and alcohol systems
- Justice-related services
- Homelessness and housing resources
- Service planning and cultivating wellness practices
Training Details
Continental breakfast, coffee, water, and lunch are provided during in-person training days. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 am, training sessions begin promptly at 9 am.

Attendance Expectations
Participants are expected to attend all training sessions in full. If you need to arrive late, leave early, or miss part of a training day, advance approval from your supervisor is required. Missed presentations may need to be completed during a future training session.
Certificates documenting completed modules and training hours will be sent to supervisors after the full training is completed.
Training rooms may vary in temperature, so participants are encouraged to bring an extra layer if needed.
