Passport Renewal Process and Fees

We do not process passport book renewals. You may be able to use the mail-in procedure if you meet the requirements. This procedure can also be used to obtain a Passport Card if you already have a passport book.

You may also use the U.S. Department of State Passport Services Office website to download the renewal forms and instructions.

Mail-in Procedure Requirements

You can request renewal of your passport by mail if your most recent U.S. passport:

  • Is submitted with your application
  • Is undamaged (other than normal "wear and tear")
  • Was issued when you were age 16 or older
  • Was issued within the last 15 years, and
  • Was issued in your current name (or you can document your name change with an original or certified copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order)

If your passport book is mutilated or damaged, you must complete a DS-11 application form and submit the application in person.

All minors age 15 and under, whether or not they have had a passport in the past, must apply in person using form DS-11.

Application Process

  1. Complete the Passport Renewal Application (DS-82).
  2. Submit the application with:
    • The applicable fee
    • Two recent (taken with the last six months) identical photographs with a light, plain background.
  3. If the name you are currently using differs from the name on your most recent passport, you must also submit a marriage certificate or court order showing change of name. The name change document must bear the official seal of the issuing authority and uncertified copies or notarized documents cannot be accepted.

Overnight delivery is not available with card renewal.
