Waiving Healthcare Coverage

If you waive participation in all health, dental, and vision benefits, you may be eligible for a monetary payment for waiving coverage. Enrolling in the Bonus Waiver is required each year during Open Enrollment at My Allegheny County Benefits in order to be considered for the monetary payment.

Unless otherwise stipulated in a union contract, county employees eligible for healthcare benefits by virtue of their relationship to another county employee shall not be eligible to receive payment for waiving benefits. You must be an active employee at the time of payout in order to be eligible for the Bonus Waiver payment.

Retirement Benefits

The Retirement Office provides information about pension and other retirement benefits, as well as upcoming Retirement Board of Allegheny County (RBAC) meetings.

Allegheny County employees are also able to participate in a 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan administered by Corebridge (VALIC/AIG) Financial Services.

Educational Benefits

Several local universities and centers offer reduced tuition and other free or reduced-cost training.

Student Loan Forgiveness Information

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) - The PSLF Program, administered by the Federal Student Aid office of the U.S. Department of Education, forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer. The PSLF site includes information on submitting the PSLF form.

Employee Wellness and Assistance Programs

The Employee Wellness Program promotes employees' health and wellness through education and preventative healthcare programs. Current employees may visit the Reference Center at MyACBenefits.

Allegheny County employees are encouraged to use the county's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), LifeSolutions. Our EAP is designed to help employees and members of their household with everyday personal and work-related concerns. The program is free and confidential.

Workers' Compensation

Workers' Compensation provides benefits to employees who are injured on the job. The Human Resources Department provides more information on the claims procedure for employees considering submitting a claim.
