Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
The Allegheny County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (AC-VOAD) is a humanitarian association of independent voluntary organizations who may be active in all phases of disaster guided by the core principles of cooperation, communication, coordination, and collaboration. The mission is to foster efficient, streamlined service delivery to people affected by disaster, while eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort, through cooperation in the five phases of emergency management: prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.
AC-VOAD is not a competing or exclusionary organization. The AC-VOAD organization is intended to be a network for all organizations active in disaster within the borders of the County of Allegheny. Each AC-VOAD member organization maintains its own identity and independence while closely collaborating with other member organizations, inter-faiths, and municipal, county, regional, state, and federal authorities.
