Office of Community Justice and Safety

The Office of Community Justice and Safety works with community partners, public safety agencies, and criminal justice entities to prevent violence, respond to crises, and reduce incarceration through timely access to quality interventions and services. The work addresses the root causes of crises, violence, and system disparities, and promotes wellness and healing, to strengthen community safety and advance justice across Allegheny County.

Office of Community Justice and Safety Services

The Office of Community Justice and Safety leads services and initiatives including:

• Community-based violence prevention, intervention and coordination strategies
• Crisis prevention and response systems to ensure timely, appropriate care
• Linkage to outpatient treatment with a focus on rapid access to medication for addiction treatment (MATTERS)
• Deflecting and diverting individuals from incarceration to community services, and improving access to supports through in-jail and re-entry services
• Partnering with public safety agencies and community organizations
• Engaging stakeholders through the Safety and Justice Community Advisory Committee
• Promoting healing, stabilization and long-term community well-being, including the Street Stabilization Team
• Supporting collaborative efforts to safely reduce the jail population and racial disparities in the criminal system
