Military Discharge Papers

Recording and Obtaining Your DD214

Why Military Discharge Papers Should be Recorded

Discharge documents are kept in a secure, private location. When needed, a certified copy may be obtained whether applying for employment, veteran's sick benefits, or veterans' death benefits.

It is a free service, there is no charge for recording.

How to Record the DD214

  • Bring the original discharge papers to the Division of Real Estate in the County Office Building, Room 101.
  • Bring a valid photo identification.

Obtaining Certified Copies

The veteran, immediate family member, funeral home or Veterans' Administration are entitled to one free copy of the recorded discharge. Additional copies are available at $1.00 each.

Complete the Military Discharge Form(PDF, 53KB) and bring it with you, or be prepared with the answers.
