Jail Staff Members Volunteer at Peoples Oakland Published on August 05, 2025 Friday, July 25, the thud of beanbags hitting the cornhole board and the smells of grilling meat wafted through the sultry Oakland air as a half-dozen ACJ volunteers joined Peoples Oakland at its monthly cookout. Jail staff helped prepare and serve the food and took turns engaging with the program participants through conversation and play.
Niko, Max become next participants in TAILS program Published on July 30, 2025 It took just more than a month for the program’s first foster dog, a female named Ellie (renamed from Ethel), to find her forever home. Now the TAILS training team is working hard to get two more dogs ready for adoption.
State Senators, ACLA and ACJ Cut the Ribbon on a Book Vending Machine Published on July 22, 2025 While visiting ACJ, children can receive a free token from officers at the front desk and feed the machine to select a book. They can then take the book home to add to their personal collections. The machine is one of several that will be placed at strategic locales in Allegheny County.
Adopted: Ellie Finds Her Furr-ever Home Published on July 10, 2025 Ellie, formerly known as Ethel, was adopted by a local family on July 9. Ellie was the first TAILS participant in the collaborative program between the jail and Animal Friends.
