Step 2.Apply Online

To apply for an open position on the job portal, click "Apply" button on the job posting.

Prospective employees can review employment-related policies for additional information regarding hiring and employment conditions of Allegheny County. 

Step 3.Prepare Necessary Relevant Documentation

Applicants may be required to upload a resume, certifications, or other documents (PDF, Microsoft Word, etc.). The system may time out due to inactivity.

Veterans' Preference:

Step 4.Submit Application

When all information has been successfully entered and reviewed by the applicant, submit the application. Submitted applications will be sent to the hiring department to determine if an applicant will continue in the selection process.

Step 5.Confirm Application Status, if Needed

Online applications will generate an automatic email confirmation that the application has been submitted. This is a courtesy notice only, not a guarantee of employment with Allegheny County or confirmation of eligibility.

Health Insurance

County employees can choose from several affordable medical, dental, and vision plans through Highmark or UPMC that meet the needs of individuals and families. Employees can also select optional coverages such as flexible spending accounts (FSA), life and accident insurance, and short-term disability. 

Retirement

Allegheny County helps employees prepare for life after careers by offering a pension which includes employer contribution. Employees can also participate in the 457(b) deferred compensation plan for tax-deferred investments, or join a monthly retirement seminar for financial planning and strategizing.

Paid Time Off

While some leave benefits may vary slightly due to collective bargaining agreements or length of service, Allegheny County offers employees:

Tuition Discounts and Educational Benefits

Many local colleges and universities offer reduced tuition and training opportunities for county employees. County employees are encouraged to utilize these programs from institutions such as Penn State, Point Park, CCAC, and more. 

Allegheny County employees may also qualify for student loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
