General Employment Policies
Accountability, Conduct, and Ethics Code
Established by the Allegheny County Council, the Accountability, Conduct, and Ethics code outlines the appropriate behavior and accountability standards of elected or appointed Allegheny County officers, employees, and members of agencies. The Accountability, Conduct, and Ethics (ACE) Commission oversees the compliance to the code by investigating complaints and recommending appropriate disciplinary action.

Allegheny County is committed to upholding the principles of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and recognizes the importance of ensuring that individuals of all abilities have equal access to the county's programs, services, and activities.
Criminal History and Background Check(PDF, 33KB)
As an equal opportunity employer, Allegheny County will not inquire about criminal history at the time of application for employment (except as applicable to exempt departments). Instead, Allegheny County will conduct criminal history and background checks, as applicable, only after a conditional offer of employment has been made and accepted by an employment candidate.

Pre-Employment Real Estate Tax(PDF, 200KB)
A component of the pre-employment background check will include verification of Allegheny County real estate tax status(es).
Vehicles(PDF, 160KB)
County-owned vehicles are to be used for official Allegheny County business only, which applies both to vehicles assigned to an employee (regularly or as a take-home option), as well as county-owned vehicles available for daily use in the vehicle pool.
Time Off and Leave Policies
Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA)(PDF, 317KB)
Allegheny County employees may be granted up to 12 weeks of leave for one or more qualifying situations.
Medical Leave of Absence(PDF, 33KB)
Allegheny County may allow authorized time off from work, without pay, for an employee for their own extended sickness or other non-recurring health condition, up to one year.
Personal Leave of Absence(PDF, 34KB)
Allegheny County may allow authorized time off from work, without pay, for an employee for a compelling, non-recurring circumstance, up to one year.
