Thank you to all applicants! All 2024 Marketing and Special Events internships are currently filled. 

The Office of Marketing & Special Events offers seasonal paid and for-credit internships to support the department in producing high-quality events and cultural programming across the county and within the Allegheny County Parks. The office helps raise public awareness of county events, activities, and initiatives through marketing, advertising, and social media. The office oversees the marketing of Hartwood Acres Mansion, Hartwood Acres Stables, County Courthouse, County Office Building, and other county-owned facilities as event venues. 

Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing and Social Media Internship

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute social media campaigns aimed to increase engagement, traffic to the website, and registration/attendance at events, programming, and activities
  • Assist with building a following on all major social media channels using organic and paid advertising
  • Assist in digital advertising efforts using Google AdWords, Facebook, or similar paid platform
  • Collaborate with departments to write SEO-focused website content
  • Research, analyze, and suggest new solutions which will help achieve Marketing goals
  • Other assignments as needed
Requirements
  • Write content, presentations, emails, and social media posts with an adaptable voice and tone
  • Skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft Office
  • Have an eye for design, beautiful photography, and well-informed infographics
  • Be creative, detail-oriented and organized
  • Think strategically and use research to guide next steps
  • Work a flexible schedule, including attendance at various events on events and weekends as needed

Graphic Design

Graphic Design Internship

Responsibilities
  • Assist in executing design content for a variety of branded marketing content including seasonal campaigns, print marketing, advertisements, newsletters, social media content, website graphics, etc.
  • Assist in designing new logos and brand style guides for new county programs and initiatives
  • Present new ideas to members of the team
  • Seamlessly design for web and print in alignment with creative briefs
  • Work as part of a creative team with other designers, videographers and content creators
  • Prepare art files and coordinate with printer for print production
  • Develop designs that are on strategy and reflective of departmental services and preferences
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Strong skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft Office
  • Bring ideas and brainstorms to visual life through design

Special Events

Special Events Internship

Responsibilities
  • Perform light office work
  • Assist the Special Events Manager and Special Events Coordinator with day-to-day operations
  • Assist in setup, operation, and teardown of events
  • Interact with event attendees in a friendly, engaging manner
  • Assist in planning and promoting events through traditional and digital marketing efforts
  • Assist in identifying sponsorships for events and programs
  • Assist in inventory management and sales
  • Assist in creating new events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Strong communications skills – both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with multiple social media platforms
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required, personal vehicle preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends

Venue Marketing

Venue Marketing Internship

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate event logistics for Hartwood Acres Mansion, The Stables at Hartwood and the Allegheny County Courthouse, including providing day-of event support to clients, caterers, vendors, and rental companies
  • Give venue tours to potential clients
  • Be on site the day of an event to ensure client satisfaction and to troubleshoot issues
  • Respond to inquiries from current and potential clients
  • Set up and break down tables and chairs for events
  • Willingness to learn our floorplan and event software programs
  • Assist in marketing Allegheny County Venues for future bookings
Requirements
  • Ability to work ~20+ hours per week
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required, personal vehicle preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lift heavy items

  • Familiarity with weddings, receptions, and special events

Videography and Multimedia

Videography and Multimedia Internship

Responsibilities:
  • Take lead responsibility for pre-production, production, and post-production of various multimedia projects as assigned
  • Research pre-determined projects and brainstorm production ideas
  • Create and schedule timelines
  • Write scripts
  • Set up and break down video and audio equipment for interviews and event documentation
  • Operate camera and microphones, and gather B-roll material
  • Import, organize, transfer and back up recorded footage and audio
  • Log footage, transcribe interviews and prepare edit decision lists
  • Work with graphic designer on special graphics
  • Research and obtain music
  • Coordinate voice overs with talent
Requirements
  • Ability to work independently

Website Design

Web Team Internship

Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily edits and website maintenance for the Allegheny County website
  • Maintain site architecture, integrity, and functionality
  • Ensure website content is accessible and responsive across all device types
  • Evaluate and optimize web content through UI/UX, A/B Testing, SEO, and basic CSS principles
  • Develop and align website content with evolving standards
  • Work as part of a creative team with designers, videographers, and content creators
  • Serve as a liaison for departmental editors and requestors
  • Basic analysis and understanding of web traffic and data trends, and providing appropriate recommendations for data-driven decisions
Requirements
  • Ability to work ~20+ hours per week
  • Ability to successfully work independently and within collaborative settings
  • Be creative, detail-oriented, and organized
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, WCAG accessibility standards, content management systems, and website analytic tools such as Google Analytics
  • Professional communication and organizational skills
  • Strategically identify and recommend content improvements across departmental webpages
  • Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (ex. Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office
  • Manage different projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Bring creative ideas and brainstorms for projects or Marketing campaigns
  • Support all functions of the Office of Marketing and Special Events
