All laboratories and physicians are required to report cases of diagnosed HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis to us here at the Allegheny County Health Department.
We look at this data to identify trends in STD/HIV rates so that we can focus our resources on areas of Allegheny County with high incidences of STD/HIV infections.
Additionally, the Syphilis Registry permanently retains all confirmed positive syphilis blood tests so that patients can be contacted for follow-up treatment and educated about ways to avoid possible reinfection.
