Sexual Health Clinic
NOTE: In addition to the downtown location, there is now a second Sexual Health Clinic location in McKeesport.
The Allegheny County Health Department’s Sexual Health Clinic encourages patients to return for repeat testing every three months if at increased risk for HIV/STIs. Patients with a known exposure or signs/symptoms of an STI should return to the clinic as soon as possible for evaluation. If patients return less than three months after their last visit and do not report increased risk or signs/symptoms, ACHD may recommend patients return at a later date to ensure accurate test results and appropriate use of resources.
Visiting the Clinic
The Sexual Health Clinic provides the opportunity to schedule an appointment and avoid waiting. Appointments are given priority before walk-in visits. To schedule an appointment call 412-578-8081. You can also sign up for MyChart to schedule an appointment online. Free and confidential STI/HIV testing and treatment is available for most STIs.
- Walk-in patients are seen on a first-come, first serve basis
- Anyone 13 years and older can be seen at the clinic without parental consent
- Patients are seen regardless of immigration status.
Patients are asked to bring photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, passport, college ID) when being seen. Patients can be seen without a photo ID, though a photo ID is required to receive results.
The Sexual Health Clinic will be requesting health insurance information from all patients. Insurance will be charged, if provided. Regardless of insurance status, all patients will be seen, and no patient will be charged themselves for services.

Cervical Cancer Screening
The Sexual Health Clinic is now offering cervical cancer screening. Our cervical cancer screening will include a pap test (pap smear) and Human papillomavirus (HPV) test. These tests help prevent cervical cancer or find it early. If you are 21 to 29 years old, you should start getting Pap tests at age 21. If your Pap test result is normal, your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years until your next Pap test.
Free At-Home Testing
The Sexual Health Clinic is now offering STI program offers free STI at-home test kits. These kits will allow you to conduct a test for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, and HIV in the privacy of your own home. For positive tests, patients may also obtain treatment at the Sexual Health Clinic and local community pharmacies. What to Expect During a Visit
Please note if this is a medical emergency, go to the nearest Emergency Department. Patients seeking Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV prevention may call the clinic (412-578-8081) for guidance on where to get PEP.
Patients should bring a photo ID (i.e., driver’s license, passport, state ID, college ID) when visiting the Sexual Health Clinic.
Upon arrival, all patients are required to take a number and clipboard and complete the intake form (yellow card). Patients are called by their number to ensure confidentiality. Patients may be called out of numerical order when appropriate.
Patients may have to wait longer than expected depending on patient volume. The clinic aims to provide services to patients in a timely manner.
During the visit, clinicians will collect a blood sample and urine sample for STI/HIV testing. Test results will be provided to the patient by clinical staff.
Personal health information is protected by HIPPA. According to the recently enacted 21st Cures Act by Congress, patients have greater access to view their medical information online and health care providers may have access to medical records for the coordination of care.

After a Visit
Some results can be provided on the same day. For other tests results, patients should wait 10 days before calling the clinic at 412-578-8081. If unanswered, patients should leave a message, and a staff member will return the call within 1-2 business days.
For positive test results, patients will receive a call from a nurse to return for treatment. Patients may also receive a call from a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) to discuss current or previous sexual partners that might have been exposed.
