What is PA-NEDSS?
PA-NEDSS is Pennsylvania's version of the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System. PA regulations specify that disease/conditions are to be reported electronically via PA-NEDSS.

Reporting Specifics
- To report HIV call 412-578-8358
- To report sexually transmitted infections call 412-578-8081
- Any unusual diseases/infections/conditions including SARS or MERS-CoV are to be reported immediately as soon as clinically suspected Reporting is not to await laboratory confirmation
- Outbreaks of any kind are to be reported immediately. On nights, weekends and holidays, please call 412-687-2243

Report Within 24 Hours of Diagnosis
Report the following within 24 hours of diagnosis.
Note: Clinical laboratories - all diseases are reportable by the next workday.
- Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM)
- Animal Bites (Online Animal Bite Reporting Form)
- Anthrax
- Arboviruses (includes chikungunya, dengue, Eastern equine encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis, Powassan, St. Louis encephalitis, West Nile virus infection, Yellow fever, et. al.)
- Botulism (all forms)
- Candida auris
- Carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterbacterales (CP-CRE)
- Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
- Cholera
- Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
- Diphtheria
- Enterohemorrhagic E. coli O157:H7 (shiga toxin-producing E. coli or STEC)
- Food Poisoning
- Haemophilus Influenzae, invasive disease
- Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
- Hemorrhagic Fever (includes Ebola)
- Lead Poisoning
- Legionnellosis
- Measles
- Meningococcal Invasive Disease
- Plague
- Poliomyelitis
- Rabies
- Smallpox
- Typhoid Fever
Report Within 5 Working Days of Diagnosis
Report the following within 5 working days of diagnosis.

- Cancer (Report to the PA Cancer Registry)
- CD4 T-lymphocyte counts and percentages
- Chancroid
- Chickenpox (Varicella)
- Chlamydia Trachomatis (Chlamydia) Infections
- Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease
- Cryptosporidiosis
- Ehrlichiosis
- Encephalitis (all types)
- Giardiasis
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Gonorrhea) Infections
- Granuloma Inguinale
- Guillain-Barre Syndrome
- Hepatitis, Viral - Acute and Chronic (A, B, C, D, E)
- Histoplasmosis
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- HIV viral load test results, including detectable and undetectable viral load results, and all HIV genotyping results
- Influenza (Lab-confirmed only)
- Leprosy
- Leptospirosis
- Listeriosis
- Lyme Disease
- Lymphogranuloma Venereum
- Malaria
- Meningitis (all types - not limited to invasive Haemophilus influenzae or Neisseria meningitidis)
- Methicilin-Resistant StaphyolococcusAureus (MRSA) invasive disease (online MRSA Reporting Form)
- Mumps
- Perinatal Exposure of newborn to Hepatitis B
- Perinatal Exposure of newborn to HIV
- Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
- Psittacosis (Ornithosis)
- Respiratory Syncytial Virus
- Rickettsial Diseases
- Rubella and Congenital Rubella Syndrome
- Salmonellosis
- Shigellosis
- Staphylococcus aureus, Vancomycin-resistant (VRSA) or Intermediate (VISA) invasive disease
- Streptococcal invasive disease (group A)
- Streptococcus pneumoniae, invasive disease
- Syphilis - all stages
