The Health Department plays a vital role in Allegheny County, both as a governmental agency and as a community partner. The department collects and disseminates health data, hosts and co-sponsors events to raise awareness, and works with others who share a vested interest in making Allegheny County among the healthiest in the nation.

Raccoon Rabies Vaccination Baiting
Learn how the Health Department partners with United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Wildlife Services to reduce the number of rabid raccoons.

Traffic Safety
The Traffic Safety Education Project (TSEP) aims to reduce injuries and deaths from motor vehicle crashes.

Supporting Expansion & Enhancement of K-12 School-Based Social, Emotional Supports
(SEEKS SES). SEEKS SES is funded through the Allegheny County Health Department and managed by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit #3 (AIU3). The project supports participating districts in addressing trauma, behavior and mental health issues that have been exacerbated in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Home Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Tests
In 2022, the ACHD launched a program to provide free, at-home testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The program increased the number of tests and the positivity rate for the samples collected. The ACHD is in the process of switching to a new test kit provider. Home test kits will be available again soon. In the meantime, we would love to see you at our clinic.

Community Health Workers for All
The ACHD is working with community and health care based organizations to strengthen the approaches of Community Health Workers. Important partners in improving public health, Community Health Workers address health and healthcare disparities and inequities in Allegheny County.
