MLK Jr. Day of Service
In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. The MLK Jr. Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off." This milestone is a perfect opportunity for KEYS AmeriCorps members to honor Dr. King's legacy through service.
KEYS AmeriCorps hosts an annual dinner and a movie event on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Participants bring a side dish or dessert to add to the meal. The film explores a topic related in some way to the legacy of Dr. King.
Service projects vary from year to year.
