Children's Cabinet

The Children’s Cabinet is a community advisory body that brings together leaders and partners committed to improving the well-being of children and families across Allegheny County. 

Members represent child and family serving systems and organizations and work together to strengthen how services are planned, coordinated and improved so that families can access the supports they need to thrive. 

The Cabinet includes representatives from child welfare and family support organizations, behavioral and physical health systems, courts and juvenile justice agencies, education and early learning systems, community based organizations, advocacy groups and other key stakeholders committed to improving outcomes for children and families. 

The Children’s Cabinet supports DHS and county leadership by: 

  • Advising on issues that affect children and families across Allegheny County
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on the annual Needs Based Plan and Budget (NBPB)
  • Supporting coordination across child welfare, behavioral health, education, early learning, juvenile justice and community based services
  • Contributing to collaborative initiatives focused on improving outcomes for children and families
  • Monitoring progress toward DHS goals for children and families
  • Guiding the planning and implementation of high quality, family centered services
