Applying for a Tax Exemption

  1. Complete the Tax Exemption Application(PDF, 139KB) and make 6 copies.
  2. Submit one original and one additional copy to the Office of Property Assessments, postmarked on or before March 31st.
    • If March 31st falls on a holiday or a weekend, the exemption application may be filed until the close of business on the next regular business day.
    • Applications received after the deadline will be held by the Office of Property Assessments and reviewed for the following tax year.
  3. Serve copies of the Application on:
    • The County Law Department
    • The Municipality
    • The School District
  4. Retain one copy for yourself.
  5. Be aware that exempt status may be Challenged by any taxing body with a vested interest in the parcel.
