Pre-Release and Aftercare Services

Foundation of HOPE

The HOPE Pre-Release and Aftercare programs of the Foundation of HOPE are interfaith (open to people of all beliefs), rehabilitative programs for incarcerated individuals in the Allegheny County Jail/re-entrants in Allegheny County who are interested in long-term change.

They work in collaboration with key community service providers and volunteers to empower incarcerated and released individuals to restore their faith, rebuild their lives and reconcile with their community.

HOPE Pre-Release Program

Interested individuals can apply for the HOPE Pre-Release program in which participants live together in a structured community in the Allegheny County Jail. Participants commit to following core values, receive resources and support and engage in multiple classes per week, including:

  • Addiction and Recovery
  • Anger Management
  • Confronting “Stinking Thinking”
  • Life Skills
  • Parenting
  • Release and Reintegration
  • Spiritual Formation
  • Victim Awareness
  • Trauma and Beyond
  • Yoga
  • 12-Step programming

HOPE Aftercare Program

The HOPE Aftercare program provides individuals with a variety of services and programs to help them successfully re-enter the community, reconnect with family, find gainful employment and secure safe housing.

The HOPE Aftercare Program provides the following:

  • Basic Needs Assistance such as bus passes, duplicate state IDs and driver licenses, clothing, work shoes, furniture and toiletries.
  • Employment Counseling, including resumes, interview attire, online job search and community job fairs.
  • Housing Assistance and resources.
  • One-on-One Mentoring, which matches individuals, currently housed at the ACJ as well as release individuals, with a caring mentor to support them along their re-entry journey.
  • Weekly PIRC (Positive Initiative to Reinforce Change) Support Groups, which provide a safe and welcoming forum for re-entrants and their supporters to share ideas and resources as well as address various social, intellectual, spiritual and physical needs.

Chaplaincy Services

The Foundation of HOPE also provides Chaplaincy Services in the Allegheny County Jail.
