Important Safety Tips!
Fireworks and celebrations go together, especially during the Fourth of July. But fireworks can be dangerous, causing serious burn and eye injuries.
If fireworks are legal where you live and you decide to set them off on your own, be sure to follow these important safety tips:
- Keep a bucket of water handy in case of a malfunction or fire.
- Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Read and follow all warnings & instructions; only use legally purchased fireworks.
- Never light fireworks indoors or in a container.
- Keep children at a safe distance and keep pets indoors.
- Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
- Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
- Don't place any part of your body directly over the firework when lighting it.
- Use a long-handled lighter and never hold the firework in your hand while lighting it.
- Light one firework at a time.
- After lighting a firework, quickly move to a safe distance.
- Never attempt to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.
- Soak spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding them.
- Don't use fireworks while impaired under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
