Park Stewards

On behalf of the Allegheny County Park Rangers, thank you to all volunteers and visitors for helping to conserve more than 12,000 acres of parkland in Allegheny County. Park stewards can find information, tools, and resources to help guide work in adopted stewardship areas.
Park Stewards
Park stewards are essential to the maintenance and upkeep of the Allegheny County Parks, and can take on responsibilities of their adopted parks with tasks including:
- Clearing trails or caring for an important ecological area in the park
- Keeping Park Rangers informed of site conditions and volunteer efforts
- Assisting Park Rangers with other activities in the parks - tree plantings, trail maintenance, wildlife habitat improvements, etc.
- Leading a group of volunteers
Invasive Species and Natural Resource Management
Science Projects
Volunteers, stewards, and park guests alike can take part in projects to collect data for ongoing research, such as:
- iNaturalist - Contribute observations when in the field or help others by identifying their records
- Lost Ladybug - Observe ladybug species to identify causes of the rapidly changing native ladybug populations
- Firefly Atlas - Spend an evening watching fireflies and help a team of universities research impacts to firefly populations
- Bud Burst - Record observations during plant life cycles to help research the effects of climate change
