Food Safety Regulations

Article III(PDF, 1MB), the Food Safety Rules and Regulations, establishes requirements for food operations in Allegheny County to obtain permits, follow safe food handling practices, and receive inspections by the Allegheny County Health Department. The purpose of this Article is to protect public health by following food safety requirements.
The Article also sets standards for management and personnel, construction and equipment for a food facility, food preparation, storage, and display, and administrative procedures, including the Food Safety Advisory Committee, variances, enforcement, and penalties.
Article III algins with Pennsylvania law for retail food facilities and the FDA Model Food Code to the extent requirements do not conflict with the Pennsylvania’s Retail Food Facility Safety Act, the Food Safety Act, and 7 PA Code Chapter 46.
