Inmate Medical Care

Healthcare Provider

The jail contracts with Allegheny Health Network for provider services, including doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Providers see patients throughout the jail. Individuals with special medical needs may be housed in the 5B Medical Housing Unit where they are closely monitored by nurses and providers. Individuals are also seen in the clinic on Level 5 or in clinic rooms on their housing levels for routine and urgent medical care needs.

Other medical specialists such as obstetrics/gynecologists, optometry, cardiology, orthopedics, and infectious disease also see patients weekly or monthly in the Level 5 clinic.

All other healthcare staff are employed by Allegheny County or through temporary staffing agencies. All healthcare personnel, including AHN, county and staffing agency employees, collaborate and are fully integrated into the jail’s medical services focusing on comprehensive healthcare for incarcerated patients.
