November 2023 Exemplary Employee Award

Rosa Furfaro, Registrar Technician
Allegheny County Elections Division

On November 9, 2023, Rosa Furfaro, a registrar technician in the Elections Division of the Department of Administrative Services, received the county’s Exemplary Employee Award. She was recognized for her customer service and her efficiency and productivity.

Rosa came to Allegheny County as a temporary employee in 1987 and was tasked with assisting the Elections Division with a redistricting project. When it was complete, she was hired full-time as a registrar technician who handles voter registration processes. In her time with the Elections Division, she has weathered 36 years’ worth of elections, including nine presidential elections.

Though her main focus is processing thousands of voter registrations each year, Rosa is always willing to volunteer wherever she is needed – leading to her nomination for the award. Whether it be ballot drop-off, over-the-counter voting, or regional return center work on Election night after a full day of answering calls in Elections, she is a cheerful presence that does whatever needs to be done for a successful election. In her nomination, this was said about Rosa: “Though the stress can be elevated at times in Elections, as we all know, Rosa is constantly smiling and has a calming presence no matter with what she is tasked.”

She was surprised with the award today by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, County Manager/Chief of Staff Jennifer Liptak, Senior Deputy County Manager Steve Pilarski, Administrative Services Director Jessica Garofolo, and Administrative Services Deputy Director Jim Davis. She was presented with a county proclamation and a token of appreciation for her work.
