Parking

Students

All students for classes in the main academy building are all required to park in the upper parking lot. Once passing the front entrance of the police academy on your left, make a right turn up the hill. The parking lot will be on your right once you crest the hill. There are stairs that will take you back down the hill to the front of the Police Academy.

Course Instructors

Instructors for any classroom training may park in the small lot near the front entrance to the police academy. Please feel free to utilize any parking space labeled "Visiting Instructors."

Firearms Courses

Parking for those attending firearms qualifications or training at the Academy Firing Range will be at the firing range. Once you pass the police academy front entrance on your left, turn right up the hill. Once cresting the hill, continue straight past the search and rescue course on your left and you will find a small driveway that takes you down a short slope to the range. You may park in any gravel area. Please do not park on the grass. If no parking is available on the range flats, please park just before the range driveway entrance.

Dress Code

In order to maintain a professional appearance, all officers attending classroom training must follow the prescribed dress code to be admitted to any training held at the Academy. The only person who can waive any part of the dress code is the Academy Director, if a request is made by an instructor or range master.

Failure to Adhere to the Dress Code

Academy attendees may be denied admittance to the classroom or range and a report may be sent to the Chief of Police, stating the reasons the officer was not permitted to attend the training session.

Facilities

The main police academy building houses the administrative offices, gymnasium / auditorium, and 4 classrooms. Also available is the state of the arts, firearms training system (FATS) and AMOS II driving simulator.

Located on the lower level are the cafeteria, weight room, and cadet locker rooms. The Fire Academy offices also share the lower level with the Allegheny County Police District Three station and additional facilities.

Located in an area above the main building, the Academy has a modern, forty lane firearms training range on-site. A steel shoot house with 4 rooms is also on-site. A heated/air-conditioned modular training facility provides year-round availability. The range serves all police agencies of Allegheny County, as well as other local, state and federal agencies.

The Academy maintains a policy of availability to all police agencies throughout Western Pennsylvania who wish to make use of its facility and the resources it has to offer.
