How to Request Services

Investigative or Emergency Services

Requests for investigative or emergency services from the Allegheny County Police Department must be placed through your local Municipal Police Department. The local police department may request the investigative or emergency services through Allegheny County Dispatch.

Non-emergency Services

Non-emergency service requests (i.e. Mounted or K9 units) must be placed through your local Municipal Police Department and approved by a member of County Police Command Staff.

The exception is the Crime Prevention & Community Awareness Programs. Requests for these services can be made directly to the Allegheny County Police Department and must be approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Services Available

Technical Services Unit

The Technical Services Unit, formerly known as the Audio and Video Forensic Unit, is equipped with the highest quality forensic analysis computer systems used to process audio, video, and digital image evidence. The detectives assigned to this unit are well trained and have a wealth of experience in forensically correct evidence processing, as well as criminal investigations. Law enforcement agencies inside Allegheny County can request assistance directly. Submissions from outside of Allegheny County are welcome, however, there are some limitations on the types of cases that will be accepted.

Bicycle Unit

Upon request bicycle patrol officers are available to assist local municipalities. Duties may include crowd control, community and bicycle safety events, parades, traffic control and patrol duties. All requests should be made to the Superintendent of Police for approval. Learn more on the Bicycle Unit page.

Collision Reconstruction Unit

The Collision Reconstruction Unit work in conjunction with the Homicide Division to reconstruct serious and/or fatal vehicle collisions. All of the collision reconstructionists are also certified MCSAP officers who enforce state and federal regulations as they pertain to commercial motor vehicles.

To request the enforcement services of MCSAP, call 412-473-1200. The rendering of collision reconstruction services is determined by the Homicide Division supervisors upon request by a law enforcement agency.

Crisis Negotiations Team

This unit is made up of patrol and investigative officers who work in conjunction with the County SWAT Team.

Requests for the Crisis Negotiations Team are made by law enforcement agencies through Allegheny County Police Command Staff.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (Bomb Squad)

The duties of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit includes the safe rendering of various types of explosive devices, including military ordnance, and conducting post-blast investigations for possible criminal prosecution. The EOD Team responds only to the finding of suspected or known explosives. They do not respond to bomb threats. Once dispatched, the EOD Team is able to identify, remove, disarm, explode, collect as evidence, or transport explosive devices as well as conduct post blast investigations.

Requests for the EOD Team are made by law enforcement agencies through County Police Command Staff. Requests for the EOD team for community-oriented events or presentations should be made to the Superintendent of Police.

Explosive Ordnance Detection K-9 Unit

The EOD K9s are utilized only after a physical search of the premises or area has been conducted and a package or unidentified object of a suspicious nature has been located. The EOD K9 will then be dispatched to the scene and the suspicious package or object will be checked by the K9 for specific odors.

Requests for the EOD K-9 unit are made by law enforcement agencies through Allegheny County Police Command Staff. Requests for an EOD K-9 for community-oriented events or presentations should be made to the Superintendent of Police.

Narcotics Detection K9

The Allegheny County Police Narcotics K9 is available to other law enforcement agencies upon request. It is capable of conducting limited searches of areas, homes and vehicles.

Pittsburgh International Airport Detention Services

The Allegheny County Police have two cells with video cameras that may be utilized by personnel transporting prisoners through the Pittsburgh International Airport. Armed personnel should contact their specific air carrier regarding instructions pertaining to the carrying of firearms and the handling of prisoners on board their aircraft.

Call the District 1 (PIA) Duty Sergeant at 412-472-5576 prior to the prisoner’s arrival at the airport.

Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT)

The SWAT Team is a highly trained tactical unit that consists of patrol and investigative officers and supervisors who assist various Federal, State, and Local agencies in the resolution of hostage rescue situations, barricaded armed individuals, high-risk arrest and search warrants, and other high-risk situations.

Requests for the SWAT team are made by law enforcement agencies through Allegheny County Police Command Staff. Requests for SWAT for community-oriented events or presentations should be made to the Superintendent of Police.

Mounted Patrol

The Mounted Unit consists of officers on horseback who patrol as needed throughout Allegheny County. Duties may include crowd control, community events, parades, and patrol duties. Requests for the Mounted Unit for community-oriented events or presentations should be made to the Superintendent of Police.
