Health Dept. Announces Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile

Allegheny County Health Department today announced additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Accordingly, the health department will treat areas for mosquitoes in the city communities of Brighton Heights, Marshall – Shadeland, California – Kirkbride, Manchester, Allegheny Commons, Perry South, Fineview, and Troy Hill with a pesticide called Zenivex E20.

I-279 Northbound, I-279/I-579 HOV Lanes to Close 5 Nights Next Week

The Department of Public Works announced today the schedule for next week’s overnight closures of a portion of I-279 and the I-279/I-579 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in Pittsburgh, Ross, and Ohio Township. The closures are necessary to demolish Jacks Run Bridge No. 3, which carries Jacks Run Road over I-279 between Bellevue Road/Bellpark Drive and Kane Lane in Ross.

The Department of Public Works announced today that it has granted a permit to St. Barnabas Charities to close Meridian Road from Bakerstown Road to Gibsonia Road (Route 910) in Richland for the Free Care 5K. The closure will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Traveling Glass Recycling

Glass bottles and jars are 100% recyclable and can be recycled for reuse endlessly without losing any quality! The traveling glass bin will be at each location for nearly a month, available daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. All colors of glass are accepted; containers must be empty; caps, lids, and labels are okay.

Hometown Hoops-Sharpsburg

Hometown Hoops are free basketball mini-camps at various locations that are open to youth ages 9 to 18 of all skill levels. Basketball attire is required. Pre-register to get a free box lunch!
