Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of 408 miles of roadway, 518 bridges, and more than 500 retaining walls within Allegheny County. It also purchases and maintains the county’s fleet of more than 800 vehicles and heavy equipment. By continually exceeding industry performance standards, the department has been accredited five times by the American Public Works Association (APWA) since 2007 and is the first in Pennsylvania to have received the prestigious honor.
