Limited Food Establishments

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will allow some 'limited' types of food processing to occur in a kitchen that is also used for home food preparation that may not meet the full regulatory code requirements, with the intent of the producer to offer these products for sale to the public. Businesses that meet all requirements and register with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as Limited Food Establishments may operate in Allegheny County but may require seasonal or temporary permits to participate in farmers markets or festivals.

For more information about registering as a Limited Food Establishment, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture website.

For more information about obtaining a seasonal or temporary permit in Allegheny County, please visit the Temporary & Seasonal Food Facilities page.

Questions about permitting and registration can be asked using the available form, by using the Allegheny County Support Center account, or calling the Food Safety Program at 412-578-8044. Please allow up to five business days for a response.
